Animals, our protégés...

Ensuring the well-being of a privileged few represents our commitment to all others.

Farm animals feel pleasure and sadness, excitement, and resentment, depression, fear, and pain. They are far more aware and intelligent than we ever imagined. They are individuals in their own right.

Jane Goodall

Ethologist and anthropologist

On its 55-hectare estate, the Sanctuaire La Garie welcomes survivors of exploitation and human neglect, ensuring their well-being for life.

We help them rebuild their lives after difficult experiences, allowing them to integrate into herds of their own kind and form new relationships. They have the freedom to graze and bathe in a pond, while eating as much as they want and receiving the necessary care. They live without constraints, cages, or closed doors.

They are finally receiving the respect they deserve.

No animals are offered for adoption or foster care. All animals at La Garie remain there for life .

Where do they come from?

Each of our protégés has a story to tell. They come to us in a variety of circumstances. At La Garie, we meet animals...

  • designated 'reform' , that is to say at the 'end of their breeding career' - and we spare them the slaughterhouse.

  • considered 'non-compliant' , not very profitable in the trade.

  • seized by the courts , due to mistreatment or wandering.

  • victims of circumstances , such as death, divorce, health or the relocation of their owners.

The parks at La Garie

Discover our rescued animals through our educational pages. They provide a better understanding of the animals' origins and biological characteristics, the realities of their exploitation, the infrastructure provided for their new lives, and the essence of our commitment.

The Sanctuaire La Garie has a theoretical capacity to accommodate 250 animals. In practice, depending on human and financial resources, it is limited to 150.

Without any public subsidies, our own resources and income from stays constitute our only means.

Our protégés need your generosity and support. We do not receive any grants to help us achieve our ambitions.
